[Big Maul] Hottopic Character Stuff

Since I can't get on the wiki at the moment, and just hit an advancement, I'll keep track here for now.

THE BASICS

Hottopic is not the "hide in the workshop" kind of Savvyhead. She grew up in the Maul, and has connections with many of the small communities that co-exist there. The children, in particular, adore her, and she's cool with that even though she's still pretty young herself. She's got her own projects, of course, but working with Jet and the AMC really seems to have her jazzed - she's been buzzing ever since they arrived.

LOOK

Woman, Utility wear plus tech, open face, dancing eyes

Hottopic wears black coveralls with little gewgaws pinned all over. Some are useful, some are just blinkenlights that may or may not represent anything, and some are weird-ass toys and charms.

She keeps her mouse-colored hair short and isn't particularly concerned with combing it.

Her recent pride and joy is a pair of purple chukka boots she traded Burrito King for last week.

Her eyes are shit-brown. Her skin is the pale olive of a deep and wide gene pool.

    Things speak: whenever you handle or examine something interesting, roll+weird. On a hit, you can ask the MC questions. On a 10+, ask 3. On a 7–9, ask 1:

    • who handled this last before me?

    • who made this?

    • what strong emotions have been most recently nearby this?

    • what words have been said most recently nearby this?

    • what has been done most recently with this, or to this?

    • what’s wrong with this, and how might I fix it?

    Treat a miss as though you’ve opened your brain to the world’s psychic maelstrom and missed the roll.

    Spooky intense: when you do something under fire, roll+weird instead of roll+cool. (Swapped out for Oftener right per Rich...)

    Reality’s fraying edge: some component of your workspace, or some arrangement of components, is uniquely receptive to the world’s psychic maelstrom (+augury). The "antenna" is a favorite old windup toy robot, which Hottopic has named KayBee a bedraggled, floppy-eared toy dog named Bluto.

    When you use your workspace for augury, roll+weird. On a hit, you can choose 1:

    • Reach through the world’s psychic maelstrom to something or someone connected to it.

    • Isolate and protect a person or thing from the world’s psychic maelstrom.

    • Isolate and contain a fragment of the world’s psychic maelstrom itself.

    • Insert information into the world’s psychic maelstrom.

    • Open a window into the world’s psychic maelstrom.

    By default, the effect will last only as long as you maintain it, will reach only shallowly into the world’s psychic maelstrom as it is local to you, and will bleed instability. On a 10+, choose 2; on a 7–9, choose 1:

    • It’ll persist (for a while) without your actively maintaining it.

    • It reaches deep into the world’s psychic maelstrom.

    • It reaches broadly throughout the world’s psychic maelstrom.

    • It’s stable and contained, no bleeding.

    On a miss, whatever bad happens, your antenna takes the brunt of it.

    WORKSHOP

    Hottopic's workshop's insane, full of old wind-up and battery-operated toys that she's "improved" to work HER way. The kids love it, but adults sometimes get the feeling that something's moving around in their blind spot, and she's been seen talking to that one tin robot more than once.

    The workshop has skilled labor (Ball Pit, Godiva, GNC), a bunch of weird-ass electronica that Hottopic has scrounged and revived over the years, and a variety of transmitters and receivers, and life support, so she can work on people as well as things.

    1. Fix Esco ummm....

    2. Run the tech shop for AMC

    3. Train up No Storage

    4. Keep the other No kids as safe as she can

    5. Keep Muzak from getting angry and turning off the music (or worse)

    6. Help Cache, if ze asks

    7. Keep all the shit running that she normally keeps running

    8. Try to make sure GNC and Ball Pit are as safe and happy as she can manage

    9. Kill the Breeze?

    10. Go out-Maul with Coming Soon to get a bike for GNC?
